The Chair will co-organise a South Asia seminar in association with AMARC Asia-Pacific, titled ‘Voices for Change and Peace: Taking stock of Community Radio in South Asia’, in New Delhi on January 17 and 18, 2013. This seminar will take stock of South Asian experiences with community radio, including the strong potential of the medium for social change and promotion of peace in the region. It will bring together radio broadcasters, civil society groups, academics, policy-makers, and media activists, to deliberate on these issues and make suitable recommendations for a more enabling policy environment in South Asia. The seminar will be held through plenary presentations and discussions with country paper presentation on the status of community radio. It will discuss and outline action plans to address cross border issues, exchange and learning visits, advocacy at the SAARC level, and other pertinent matters that concern the sector in the sub region.
The seminar will be followed a 4-day Training Workshop for Women Community Broadcasters of South Asia from January 19-22, 2013, with a view to enhancing access to community media, promoting positive social change and peacebuilding through community broadcasting. Women radio broadcasters from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are encouraged to apply.
