The first Garhwali community radio station in the Uttarakhand Region – 90.4 MHz Samudaik Radio Henvalvani – completed its second year of broadcast in March 2014.
To celebrate the occasion and enter into their next cycle broadcast, Henvalvani organized a cultural programme at Gautam Residency, Chamba. This programme was put together exclusively by the local community involvement. It was attended by over 400 villagers from its catchment area, and also by government officials, health professionals, academicians, cultural and social activists.
The inaugural session began with symbolic lighting of the lamp and presentation of bouquets to the chief guest Maharani Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah and concluded with singing of local folk songs by renowned singer Mr.Padam Gussain.
Community Participation is the specialty of Henvalvani, where most of team members work on a volunteer basis. In the coming year, the station aims to provide equal 0pportunity for all sections of the local community to participate in programme production. It would also endeavour to create a link between the community and the local government to enhance transparency, and work towards including key community issues in the content and programme of Henvalvani.
