PSG Community Radio (PSGCR) is a community radio station started by PSG & Sons Charities in the PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore on December 14, 2007. PSGCR aims at working as a democratic platform – for the people, by the people, from the people, and to the people. Communities and listeners are empowered through PSGCR and encouraged to express their points of view on what matters to them. On February 13, this year, PSGCR carried out non-stop live programming for 24 hours from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm, to celebrate World Radio Day. The live broadcasts focused on the theme ‘Radio and Diversity’, and included a variety of programming on education, health, entertainment, economy, science, and food etc.. Taking inspiration from the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Vision 2020, the producers at PSGCR did a special programme in which people in and around Coimbatore participated and shared their views. In the present times, PSGCR considers it is their responsibility to keep the communities informed and updated about the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. They are broadcasting programmes that include interviews of health experts, and community leaders. Special awareness messages by RJs are being transmitted to sensitise communities about the Covid-19.
